Punishment And Rehabilitation In The Community Criminology Essay
Discipline And Rehabilitation In The Community Criminology Essay Fundamentally assess the utilization of the jail as a sentence of the court in England and Wales in the course of the most recent 20 years. The 1990s saw a sharp ascent in the politicization and in the seriousness of condemning arrangement (Maguire et al, 2007). Since the 1990s enactment has been vigorously scrutinized, this saw the surrender of key columns, yet the ascent of others. Accordingly, The Criminal Justice Act as fairly reformed presenting more up to date enactment throughout the years that have affected in transit sentences are utilized. The adjustment in government from Conservative to New Labor likewise observed a confounded blend of new polices, which have contributed and impacted the utilization of the jail. Since the post war years the jail populace started to extend, which prompted a feeling of emergency for the legislature from two points of view. The first was in quite a while of social control. The noteworthy and quickly rising jail populace could be seen as a breakdown in social request. The other territory of concern was because of the growing jail populace and the expansion in consumption. At the time the legislature were attempting to decrease consumption and incite new network sentences to constrain the quantity of guilty parties who really went to jail. Therefore, there have been numerous scholars who have endeavored to structure the criminal equity framework. There have additionally been new belief systems for how the jail ought to be utilized as a sentence. By breaking down the utilization of the jail it will assist with characterizing contemporary penitentiaries in western social orders, not least since there is significant accord that the corrective framework in England an d Wales has been in a condition of regularly developing emergency since the 1960s (Maguire et al, 2007). Measurements show a significant increment in the jail populace. In 1989 the jail populace was 48,600 consistently and in 2008 the jail populace expanded to 83,190. Wrongdoing estimated by the British Crime Survey (BCS) tumbled from 18.5 million offenses in 1993 to 11.7 million by 2003/04. BCS wrongdoing fell by around a third in England and Wales simultaneously as the jail populace expanded by 66% (Home Office 2008). These insights propose that the utilization of the jail has been successful by how recorded crime percentages have fell throughout the years and that the quantity of guilty parties going to jail as expanded. In any case, it strikes debate because of the expansion in jail populaces. In 1997, Labor had made 16,000 more jail places when the Government were attempting to decrease use around there. The lead up to the 1991 Criminal Justice Act saw a move in punitive strategy. The progressing worries of regularly developing jail numbers went with an across the board embitterment with the rehabilitative perfect and concerns were raised about the coordinating of sentences to wrongdoers instead of the wrongdoing (Brownlee 1998). The preservationist government had given significant changes to the condemning system affected by retributivist hypothesis and the idea of appropriate recompense where guilty parties were rebuffed with respect to the wrongdoings they had submitted. Additionally the 1990 white paper, Crime, Justice and Protecting the Public presented new enactment in the criminal equity framework. Presently, Community sentences could be utilized as choices as opposed to the utilization of detainment. Home Office (1990) additionally guaranteed a progressively steady way to deal with condemning so crooks arrive appropriate recompense. The focal points of condemning were simply pastries and relative sentences; in any case, prevention was downgraded as a sentence. This analysis was made of the 1991 Act and 1993 Act as there was an unworkable half breed condemning structure. The Criminal Justice Act 1991 was evident that the primary condemning choice was to figure offense reality and a proportionate (comparable) sentence. Jail in this manner, was utilized to keep individuals in care by the reality of the offense (Easton et al, 2005). Thus, the utilization of the jail had changed by recognizing the earnestness of the offense, though before anyone who carried out a wrongdoing would simply go to jail. Consequently, someone indicted with murder would go to jail, though someone who was vandalizing would more probable compensation a fine or have a network sentence contingent upon the conditions. This noteworthy bit of enactment seemed to make ready for network sentences, and to be sure the Probation Service to assume a focal job in criminal equity strategy. Courts were presently guided by earnestness edges, which expected them to legitimize why a sentence was either genuine enough for a network punishment, or so genuine that lone a custodial sentence could be justified (Cavadino Dignan 2002). By 1993 anyway the approaching Home Secretary clarified that he was a promoter of custodial measures for guilty parties in his announcement Prison Works. The 1993 Criminal Justice Act revoked on a portion of the positive parts of the prior 1991 Act, and denoted a restoration of peace talk in deciding criminal equity strategy. By 1995 in the Green Paper Strengthening Punishment in the Community, in spite of the impressive changes achieved to network sentences by the 1991 Criminal Justice Act, the case was made that probation oversight was still viewed as a delicate choice. The resulting White Paper Protecting the Public plainly underlined the requirement for network sentences to have a reformatory as opposed to rehabilitative center, and called upon these sentences to be truly, intellectually or genuinely testing with a weight on moral duty and control. The quick increment in the jail populace and the numbers sent to jail spoke to an extreme break with the virtual strength of earlier decades. All things being equal, two contemplations ought to be borne as a top priority before crediting the all out obligation regarding the expansion in jail populace exclusively to Michael Howard. First there is some proof that general feeling took an increasingly reformatory turn during the 1990s, which may clarify why the foreseen open objection against Howards arrangements was so quieted, and why the broad communications were to a great extent strong of these approaches (Hough, 1996). Ryan (2002) likewise contended that a progression of sentimental hysterias was controlled by legislators to win the help of voters for a harder peace stage. Populist Punitiveness majorly affected enactment since it got vital to the worries of the overall population and there reactions to wrongdoing. A summary of the 1991 and 1993 Criminal Justice Act feature the utilization of the jail by how genuine the wrongdoing is. The jail is utilized to take freedom and by 1993 and the utilization of network sentences made it progressively determinable by the degree of wrongdoing submitted by utilizing earnestness edges. Be that as it may, by 1995 they perceived that the probation administration was to delicate and required alterations. The utilization of the jail was currently observed if all else fails or for intense offenses. Moreover, general conclusion affected wrongdoing, which is contended one reason why the jail populace is supposed to be so high because of the publics view and dread of wrongdoing. In May 1997, the Conservative Party was catapulted from power as Labor; Led by Tony Blair delighted in an avalanche triumph. Tony Blair, thought to change Labor to New Labor, and one of the manners in which he did this was through open picture by getting extreme on wrongdoing (Mathews 1999). Work presented a different measure of enactment, which prompted the flow of network punishments. This was apparent in the 1998 Crime and Disorder Act, which made the Drug Treatment Testing Order, and the 2000 Criminal Justice and Court Services Act. This achieved the Probation Order, Community Service Order and the Combination Order. Two further sentences were additionally made that are the Exclusion Order and the Drug Abstinence Order. In any case, the Drug Abstinence Order was later surrendered as it was demonstrated unworkable; this could be because of Populist Punitivism. The traditionalist government have a conservative methodology, while New Labor originates from the left. This be that as i t may, had little impact for the utilization of the jail as work underscored on the traditionalist way to deal with wrongdoing and made it more grounded. In spite of the fact that there was new enactment that gave the court more force and alternatives over the guilty party, jail numbers kept on rising. This was likewise evident when David Blunkett became Home Secretary as the jail populace began to quickly develop a long time after (Guardian 2001). In 2001, the jail emergency of congestion, and the financial issues were featured once more, which brought about new enactment from results drawn from the Halliday Report. The audit was conceived out of a conviction that the present condemning structure experiences genuine insufficiencies that diminish its commitments to wrongdoing decrease and open certainty (Halliday 2001). The report featured key impediments and recommended new ways to deal with reinforce the criminal equity framework. One of the featured issues was the short jail sentences of under a year and that they had no impact on the guilty party. It was likewise noticed that tenacious guilty parties don't seem to get fundamentally longer jail sentences. Halliday (2001) shows that in an example of male wrongdoers matured more than 18 and condemned in1998, the normal sentence for thievery for a guilty party with at least 10 past feelings was just 4 months more than someone without any feelings. The Halliday Report prompted the White Paper in 2002, Justice For All, which sets out the Governments expansive recommendations for the change of the criminal equity framework and brought about the 2003 Criminal Justice Act. The Halliday Report noticed that appropriate recompense and the discipline fitting the wrongdoing are key highlights of the legal system set up in 1991 and that there is nothing amiss with this in itself. Anyway the report currently centers around three levels of reality set up by the Act: fines, network discipline and c

Book Report People Over Profit - 2582 Words
Romaine D. Nuyda 4 TE-2 Book Report: PEOPLE OVER PROFIT By Dale Partridge A. INTRODUCTION Dale Partridgeââ¬â¢s book had a quote from George Orwell, ââ¬Å"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.â⬠This statement says a lot about how the book sees our current business practices, acknowledges it, and gives us a few tips as to why valuing people over profit results to real entrepreneurial success. Partridge started with a short story of how his visit to the physician made him realize the unethical practices in most, if not all, businesses today. He was asked to wait for his physician for more than an hour, but was surprised when the actual consultation lasted only 3 minutes tops. He felt as is his time was completely disregarded and was dishonored as he look at the numerous people still waiting outside for a 3-minute talk. This reflects the state most of our industries are in today. Those who tend to lower product or service quality to maximize their profits, without considering their customers. Question: Discuss about theMarketing Management and Digital Communication. Answer: Introduction Hublot is a luxury group of watchmakers, which was founded in the year 1980 by an Italian named Carlo Crocco. The company operates presently under a company called LVMH of France, which is a wholly owned subsidiary. The company in its initial years took three years in making the strap of the watch and made its debut in the Basel Watch Fair in the year 1980 and turned out to be a commercial success, as the sales were made in excess of $2 million within the first year (Raffaelli, 2014). The company launched its Big Bang chronograph series of watches in the year 2005 after the company had a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2004 named Jean-Claude Biver. The Big Bang series of watches was a huge success and the number of orders had increased within the first month. The watch received the 2005 Design Prize, the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix and other prizes as well from all over the globe (Bastian et al., 2016). Description of the watch The outer casing of the watch is 45 mm and the case is blue sapphire crystal, which is polished perfectly. The bezel of the watch also has a blue sapphire crystal with titanium screws, which are shaped as 6 H. The inner case of the watch has an anti-reflective treatment for the crystal and the dial consists of a polished and Smoked Transparent Composite Resin Skeleton along with a Blue Luminescence. The hands of the watch are finished with satin products and have a blue luminescence as well. the strap of the watch is known as the blue transparent lined straps that are structured in nature and the clasp has a titanium deployant buckle (Bashutkina, 2016). The inner working of the watch is that it has a chronograph that is self winding along with a flyback movement and column wheel. The battery can reserve its power up to 72 hours and can resist water up to 50m or 5ATM. The watch has been limited to a hundred pieces, as it targets only the higher classes of people in the society. The company tries to attract the affluent sections of people within the society so that they can afford to buy the watch and appreciate the effort that has been put in to it by the workers. It is seen that recently the demand for watches has increased to a great extent all over the world, which has helped the company in increasing its sales. The company has launched a new store in Sydney in the year 2017, as the trend of wearing luxury watches in the Australian market has increased by 17 percent. The overall increase in wearing electronic gadgets has also seen a rise of 41 percent in the financial year of 2016-17 (Sicard, 2013). Mission The mission of the company is to create the product by combining the art of fusion. This helps the company in creating the products based on current issues so that the customers can be aware of the problems. SWOT analysis Strengths The company has developed an innovative material for its products, which can resist the scratches. The material has been named as Magic gold, which has become popular on a global level. The company has more than 40 boutiques on a global scale, which has helped them in increasing the sale of its products. The company has benefitted mostly through its association with the parent company, which is a well renowned industry with respect to luxury goods. The company is known for the fusion that they create with different types of materials along with the use of precious materials in a traditional manner. The company has also been associated with major football events and was the official timekeeper of the games (Pinkhasov Nair, 2014). Weaknesses The presence of the company is not that strong when it is compared to the other watch companies that are present in different countries. Another main weakness of the company is that it does not uses extensive strategies for advertising when compared to other experts of the watch making industry (Pla, Pelletier Bertrand, 2014). Opportunities The company has tried to increase its number of stores from 2011 onwards, which has helped the customers by providing them a better and wider reach. The category of luxury watches is becoming vastly popular in the markets, as it is appealing to the customers of the developing markets in a better manner. Threats The number of fake watches bearing the same identity of the logo of the company has surrounded the market and they sell at a cheaper rate. The other luxury brands of watches offer stiff competition to Hublot due to its increased reach among the customers through better advertisements, which has helped in attracting the customers towards it and decreased the sales of Hublot (Pinkhasov Nair, 2014). Competitor analysis The Australian market consists of many exotic watch companies, which provides tough competition to Hublot. The companies such as Zenith, Rolex and Tissot have a very good presence in the market due to the use of extensive advertising campaigns, which has helped in attracting majority of the customers. The rival companies are very active on the social media platforms, which helps them in attracting the customers for increasing the sales of their products (Donze, 2014). Marketing objectives The primary marketing objectives that the company can adopt in the Australian market are as follows: Simple he company needs to set its objectives in a simple manner so that it can be achieved in an easy manner. The objectives have to be set in a manner, which will help in associating the audience with the brand. This will help in selling the product in a better manner, as the customers can understand the value and the need of the watches. The interest among the customers will rise once they can understand the aim that the company wants to set in the market. The company tries to innovate the products in a better manner so that it can provide the customers with a new type of product, which are not similar to the previous models (Bello, 2016). Measurable The company has to study the market in a better manner so that it can understand the trend that is being followed in the market, which will help in selling off the product in a better manner. The use of the sales metric system will help the company in gaining a better understanding about the figures of sale that the company may try to achieve in the market. This will help the company in providing a detailed report to the stakeholders so that the information can be communicated in an efficient manner within the company (Ostapenko, 2016). Attainable The company needs to establish a better distribution system so that the product can be marketed in a better way within the Australian market. The distribution system needs to be efficient so that the product can be available in the retail store of the company along with the online system so that the customers can avail both the options in purchasing the product. The watches that are provided by the company follow the trend that is present in the culture of the consumers within the Australian market. The products made by the company help the customers in developing a better taste with respect to fashion in the wristwatch category. This will help the company in increasing their sales within the market (Donze, 2014). Relevance The setting of the objective, which is of high standard, will help the company in growing in a better manner, as the company will invest a large number of resources. The amount that will be invested by the company will help them in marketing the product and distribute it accordingly within the Australian market. Time The objectives that has been set by the company needs to be achieved within the first six months so that it can create the maximum impact on the customers. This will help the company in attracting the customers towards themselves at a faster rate so that the rival companies cannot take the opportunity by providing the customers with an advantage (Sicard, 2013). Financial objectives Profit maximization objective This objective helps in growing the interest of the owners towards the retail store, which results in taking better decisions. The competition that takes place within the market helps the company in maximizing its profits by applying the various economic theories. The revenues and costs have to be calculated in a better manner so that it can help in maximizing the profit of the company. This objective will help the company in making profits within a shorter span of time (Theurillat Donze, 2017). Wealth maximization This objective will help the company in maximizing its wealth with the action that will be taken up by the senior management. The action will be based on the difference of the present value of the company in the market and the cost of value of the company. The actions that will be taken up will help the company in increasing its wealth. This objective will help the company in ensuring its survival within the market and help in the growth of the company as well. The risk of the company can be calculated in a better manner so that it can be avoided on a prior basis, which will help the company in the long run (Semens, 2016). Sales maximization The growth of the company will also depend on the marketing and sales that the company will do so that it can attract the customers. The revenue from the sales will benefit the company, as the share of the company in the market will increase that will create a positive impact on the status of the company in the Australian market. The increase in the sales of the company will help the company in earning better revenues, which will help the company in gaining some prestige in the market within the first six months (Theurillat Donze, 2017). Marketing mix strategy Product The product that will be offered by Hublot is a watch known as Big Bang Blue, which is a limited edition watch manufactured by the company. The product will be available for only a few customers, as only hundred pieces will be made for the market. Thus, it will increase the demand among the potential customers who have developed an interest in luxury watches (Sicard, 2013). Place The company has opened its retail outlet in Sydney, which is one of the marketing hubs in Australia. The presence of affluent people and a better demographic structure in the place will help in attracting the customers towards the brand. Sydney is one of the major commercial centres in Australia, as there are many multinational corporations that are operating in that place. This will help the company in selling the product in a better manner (Semens, 2016). Price The price of the product is high, as it will appeal only to the affluent section of the people in the society. The product will have a limited supply in the market and belongs to the category of luxury watches, which has an influence on the price of the product. The price will be competitive with the rival companies such as Rolex and Tissot so that it can help in attracting the customers (Bochenek Blili, 2014). Promotion The company will promote its product by using the social media platforms in an efficient manner so that it can help in grabbing the attention of the customers. The advertisements will be present in Facebook and Twitter, as most of the younger generation for whom the product is manufactured are hooked on to these sites. This will help the company in spreading awareness about the product among the target customers (Tallent, 2014). Digital Marketing communication plan The company will promote its product extensively on the social media so that it can have a wider reach in the market and the customers can be aware of the product that is available in the market. The company has also sponsored many events in the Australian market such as the Golden Snipper, Racing events and the Autumn Carnival that is held in Sydney, which has ensured the awareness of the product within the customers. These have helped the company in associating on a close manner with the target customers so that the product can be sold in an easy manner (Schaffmeister, 2015). All Teachers are Reflective Teachers
All Teachers are Reflective Teachers While there is agreement among education researchers that reflective teachers are effective teachers, there very little evidence in recent research to recommend just how much reflection teachers need to do. There is also very little evidence in past research that outlines just how a teacher should reflect on his or her practice. Yet there is undisputed evidence that suggests that teaching without reflection can lead to bad practice, imitation in instructionà Lortie (1975). So how important is the use of reflectionà to a teachers practice? The research suggests that the amount of reflection or how that reflection is recorded is not nearly as important as when the teacher has had the opportunity to reflect on his or her teaching. Teachers who wait to reflect may not be as accurate in their reflections about what happens during the swampy lowlands of practice. In other words, if a teachers reflection is distanced by time, that reflection may revise the past to fit a present belief. à In an article titled Teacher Reflection In a Hall of Mirrors: Historical Influences and Political Reverberations (2003), the researcher Lynn Fendler makes the case that teachers are already reflective by nature as they continuously make adjustments in instruction. à ...the laborious attempts toà facilitateà reï ¬âective practices for teachers ï ¬ây in the face of theà truism expressedà in the epigraph of this article, namely, that there isà no suchà thing as an unreï ¬âective teacher. Teachers spend so much time preparing for and delivering lessons, that it is easy to see why they often do not spend their valuable time to record their reflections on lessons in journals unless required. Instead, most teachers reflect-in-action, a term suggested by researcher Donaldà Schonà (1987). This kind of reflection-in-actionà is the kind of reflection that occursà inà the classroom in order to produce a necessary change at that moment. This form of reflection-in-action is slightly different than reflection-on-action. In reflection-on-action,à the teacher considers past actions relative soon after instruction in order to be ready for an adjustment in a similar situation.à So, while reflection cannot be packaged as prescribed practice, there is a general understanding that teacher reflection-in-action or on-action results in effective teaching.à Methods of Teacher Reflection Despite the lack of concrete evidence supportingà reflection as an effectiveà practice and the lack of available time, a teachers reflection is required by many school districts as part of theà teacher evaluationà program. There are many different ways that teachers can include reflection as part of their own path towards professional development and to satisfy evaluation programs. A daily reflection is when teachers take a few moments at the end of the day to debrief on the days events. Typically, this should not take more than a few moments. When reflection is done over a period of time, the information can be illuminating. Some teachers keep a daily journal while others simply jot down notes about issues that they had in class. Consider asking, What worked in this lesson? How do I know it worked? At the end of a teaching unit, once assessments have all been graded, a teacher may want to take some time to reflect on the unit as a whole. Answering questions can help guide teachers as they decide what they want to keep and what they want to change the next time they teach the same unit. For example, Overall which lessons worked and which didnt? With which skills did students struggle the most? Why?Which learning objectives seemed the easiest for students? What made those work better? Were the end results of the unit what I had expected and hoped for? Why or why not? At the end of a semesterà or school year, a teacher may look back over the students grades in order to try and make an overall judgment about the practices and strategies that are positive as well as areas that need improvement. What To Do With Reflections Reflecting on what went right and wrong with lessons and classroom situations is one thing. However, figuring out what to do with that information is quite another. Time spent in reflection can help ensure that this information can be used to produce real change for growth to occur.à There are several ways teachers can use the information they learned about themselves through reflection: Teachers can reflect on their successes and find reasons to celebrate. They may use their reflections to recommend the actions that lead to success for students in next years lessons.Teachers can individually or collectively reflect on areas that need improvement and look for areas where lessons did not have the desired academic impact.Teachers can reflect on any housekeeping issues that arose or areas where classroom management needed some work.à Reflection is an ongoing process and someday, the evidence may provide more specific guidelines for teachers. Reflection as a practice in education is evolving, and so are teachers.

Managing Property Businesses Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Managing Property Businesses - Term Paper Example To remain competitive, organizations have to evaluate their strategies to make sure they align with business needs - both today and in the future. They need to deliver new business value and growth in the market through product innovation, more personalized customer service or transforming business processes They must be able to anticipate, rapidly respond and always be available. Organizations are looking to make better use of resources that they have, whether by saving a step in a business process or by improving linkages with their business partners. Organizations are looking to get more out of the resources they have in place so they can be freed up to generate additional opportunity. They want to reduce their operating costs so that they can invest in growth and opportunity. The need for a suitable workforce seems to be at the top of these reasons for relocation."Most businesses start in a small facility, such as the founder's garage, and then move to bigger quarters in the same city", says L. Clinton Hoch, director of location advisory services for DCG Corplan Consulting (a site selection consultancy in West Orange, New Jersey). Later, the business outgrows that location or begins to find fault with its facilities, services, utilities, infrastructure or other features. "Usually only after a business owner goes through those stages is he or she ready to make a move out of the original area," says L. Clinton Hoch. Relocating may be one of the best things that can be done for a business. Whether we are moving by choice or by necessity (our lease is up and our landlord is raising the rent), relocation is not an easy task. There are issues like location scouting, commercial realtors, negotiating, number crunching, licenses, packing, unpacking, mail forwarding.Ã Ã

Lack of parking in asu campus Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Lack of parking in asu campus - Essay Example The university receives over 2000 visitors a day. The parking space cannot accommodate all vehicles hoping to park on the campus. Students park outside the university premises in order to reduce the problem of congestion and high parking fee. They park at a distance of 15 minutes to 1hourââ¬â¢s walk to campus. Some of the students are now forced not to come with their vehicles to school. I propose ASU to reduce the cost of campus parking and provide additional parking. Different plans have been laid down to solve fee payment of the vehicle. Generally, the students of ASU should not be involved in paying the parking fee. The university authority has also tried to solve the problem through instituting fines on those who fail to pay the parking fee, putting up more buildings and shades for parking. I think that there is no need for raising fee payment for parking to the students of the ASU since the university should cater for their issues. Parking the vehicles outside the campus compound is not safe for parking since it is risky (Todd Web). I therefore, wish that the institution should reduce payment fees to the students than to the visitors. However, there is no need for the campus students to pay for the parking fee since they are entitled to use the campus resources simply because they pay the fee. ASU entered in to a contract with a private developer to begin constructing a hotel and a conference centre on Mill Avenue and University Drive (Arizona State University Web). This was done in order to create more space for studentsââ¬â¢ recreation and parking. Parking and Transit Services was established to curb the complex parking situation at the campus. The regulations are published and made law in all the premises of ASU for easy utilisation of the parking spaces (Yara Web). The university authority assigned the duty of providing parking areas on the campus, imposing fines and collection of

Paul Lutus Advertising Essay Example for Free
Paul Lutus Advertising Essay In his article entitled Consumer Angst written in 2007, Paul Lutus claimed that ââ¬Å"No matter how true any single advertisement is, modern advertising, taken as a whole, tells a lie ââ¬â that you need the thing being advertised. â⬠To explain his point, Paul Lutus further claims that valuable consumer goods need not be advertised because it is a necessity by itself and no promotion is needed for it to attract and obtain sales. Moreover, he explained that the quality of the product should speak for itself and there is no need to ââ¬Å"waste companyââ¬â¢s money asserting the obviousâ⬠. In his above-mentioned arguments, Paul Lutus obviously focuses only on one aspect of advertising which is to sell. He missed to appreciate the other function of advertising which is to inform. Advertising, as defined by Wikipedia. org, ââ¬Å"is the form of communication whose purpose is to inform potential customers about products and services and how to obtain and use themâ⬠. The primary purpose of advertising is to create public awareness about a certain product or service that is being advertised. It aims to communicate to the intended audience that such a product or service exists. As Taflinger (1996) claims ââ¬Å"the basic purpose of advertising is to identify and differentiate one product from another in order to persuade the consumer to buy that product in preference to another. â⬠Advertising is usually used to create a unique image that will be identified to a product or service. The message that is being communicated usually highlights the best features of the product ââ¬â its uniqueness, usability, best characteristics, etc. ââ¬â that will customerââ¬â¢s attention to it. After providing information on the product or service features, advertisingââ¬â¢s goal is to entice customers to try out the product. It is therefore safe to claim that the end-goal of any advertisement is to generate sales in terms of product or service. However, while it is true that every advertising campaign is aimed at generating revenue for the brand that is being advertised, it is not proper to claim that all advertisements are lies. Even premium brands such as Nike, Armani, Prada and others do advertise their products. These brands are sought after and have all proven to be of good quality. But these brands still invest on advertisement. Advertising has become an important part of todayââ¬â¢s business. With new products sprouting like mushrooms everyday, competition has become stiff and advertising has taken a big role in allowing the product or service to compete in the market. In his article entitled ââ¬Å"Educating the Consumer about Advertising: Some Issuesâ⬠Stephen Gotlieb (1991) explains that advertising ââ¬Å"promotes competition among producers of products and services, keeps prices low through the development of mass markets, encourages store owners to stock a variety of items, supports free expression by funding media sources, and spurs inventionâ⬠. The more you are seen and understood by your customers, the bigger chance you have to stay in the mainstream. It is therefore important to get you message through, so that your product or service gets noticed. Or else, your offer will just perish. Also, with the competition getting tighter, advertisers today cannot afford to rely on false claims for their products of services. With a lot of other options available in the market, a single wrong claim will trigger the customer to try out other product. It is the role of advertising to entice customers and encourage them to try out the product. Once the customer is convinced with the advertising claim and decides to avail the product or service, it is now the role of the product to prove itself and embody what is being stated in the advertising claim. It is therefore crucial to communicate the message that best embodies the product. Once advertised, the product or service is already exposed to t he public eye and scrutiny. Unless the customer has already tried out the product or service, their perception of the product will depend on the advertisement. It will either make or break the future of the product or service depending on how you position the message about the product. Therefore, while an advertisement is typically used to create or alter the consumerââ¬â¢s perception of a product and induce them into buying it, it cannot be said that it is Alwaysà a lie. For obvious reasons, advertisements only highlight the good side of the products or services. We cannot blame the advertisers to do this. The Pent-up Guilt in Macbeth Essay -- Macbeth essays
The Pent-up Guilt in Macbeth à à à à There is hardly any emotion in William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth that outweighs that of guilt. Both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are seriously compromised by the impact of this emotion. à Clark and Wright in their Introduction to The Complete Works of William Shakespeare explain how guilt impacts Lady Macbeth: à Having sustained her weaker husband, her own strength gives way; and in sleep, when her will cannot control her thoughts, she is piteously afflicted by the memory of one stain of blood upon her little hand.à (792) à In Fools of Time: Studies in Shakespearean Tragedy, Northrop Frye sees a relationship between Macbeth's guilt and his hallucinations: à The future moment is the moment of guilt, and it imposes on one, until it is reached, the intolerable strain of remaining innocent. [. . .] Macbeth's capacity for seeing things that may or may not be there is almost limitless, and the appearance of the mousetrap play to Claudius, though more easily explained, has the same dramatic point as the appearance of Banquo's ghost. (90) à Fanny Kemble in "Lady Macbeth" asserts that Lady Macbeth was unconscious of her guilt, which nevertheless killed her: à A very able article, published some years ago in the National Review, on the character of Lady Macbeth, insists much upon an opinion that she died of remorse, as some palliation of her crimes, and mitigation of our detestation of them. That she died of wickedness would be, I think, a juster verdict. Remorse is consciousness of guilt . . . and that I think Lady Macbeth never had; though the unrecognized pressure of her great guilt killed her. The terms color blind and diversity
The terms color blind and diversity are widely used in affirmative action but they are not synonymous. Applied properly, color blind should be taken to mean without distinction to color. This means that the policies such as affirmative action should neither advance nor protect the interests of any race. As compared to diversity, this is understood to provide the necessary preferential treatment in order to advance the interests of all races, being color blind is not related to racial relations but instead advocates the lack of any racial undertones. To arrive at a better understanding of how these terms work it is important to briefly discuss affirmative action. Affirmative action has been praised and pilloried as the answer to racial inequality. First introduced by President Kennedy in 1961, ââ¬Å"Affirmative actionâ⬠was designed as a method of reducing the discrimination that had remained despite the civil rights laws and constitutional guarantees. It was a method that was put in place as a ââ¬Å"Temporary Measure to Level the Playing Fieldâ⬠through the offering of the same opportunities to all Americans. As the video shows, the struggle for racial equality has taken different paths in American history. For some, it has mean equal opportunity and righting of a wrong long since committed, for others it remains a constant struggle not only for survival but for recognition. There have been several violations that have disenfranchised many but this clear violation of the Constitution prompted many to create a landmark law that will turn the tide once and for all. It was ââ¬Å"Affirmative Actionâ⬠that was supposed to save America from the evils of racism and discrimination but this directive failed and in fact it even backfired and instead of helping the oppressed it made them look less worthy of respect as ever before. As such, it is clear that being color blind, while different from encouraging diversity, is oftentimes interchanged and can have disastrous results. These concepts, however, are not mutually exclusive and may co-exist under the proper circumstances. It must be remembered that in order for Civil Rights plans such as Affirmative Action to work there must be a fine balance to encourage racial diversity but at the same time not lead to discrimination of other races.

Parent s Choices Affect Children - 2437 Words
Parentââ¬â¢s Choices Affect Childrenââ¬â¢s Choices Growing up, there was always a commotion around my house. I grew up with two older brothers that could win a medal for making noise. Despite their uncanny ability to annoy me, I still am very appreciative that I have them. My brothers have been so helpful and have taken care of me my whole life. They have been great examples to me and have taught me so much about life. Itââ¬â¢s nice having someone who looks out for you no matter what. They are my lifelong friends that I grew up with just a bedroom away. There are so many inside jokes and we always have a ton of fun, even when we are just hanging around the house. I feel like growing up without them I wouldnââ¬â¢t be the person I am today. Brothers and sisters can have a huge impact on the type of person we grow up to be. I have many friends that are only children, so this makes me wonder- What is it like to be an only child? To begin my research, I looked for direct quote s from only children about what it is like to actually grow up without siblings. I found a quote from a Rolling Stone article called The Private Life of Natalie Portman where Portman said, ââ¬Å"I would have never been an actress if I werenââ¬â¢t an only child, because my parents would never have let me be the star of the family at the expense of another child.â⬠(Heath). Long Term Risk And Reward Missions - 1741 Words
Long term exposure in space poses multiple threats to astronauts who are tasked to complete high risk and reward missions. Some of the most prominent threats include loss of muscle mass, decrease in bone density, and weakening of the immune system. Other dangerous potential effects are alteration in circadian rhythms and exposure to radiation. Each effect either has current treatments, or are currently being researched to discover more effective forms to combat the potential dangers they pose. Since the beginning of time the human body has evolved to adapt to changes in surrounding environment, altering the physical and mental parts of the body. Adapting to changing environments is key to the survival of humans, because without these alterations the human body would become obsolete and left behind. This process of bodily change has not only been demonstrated throughout the history of mankind on Earth, but can also be seen from how the body attempts to change when exposed to foreign e nvironments, like space. Research and evidence from previous space travel expeditions have shown that the human body is subject to change, mostly negative, when exposed to long term space flight. There are multiple effects the body endures during space flight such as muscle atrophy, adjustments in bone structure, decreases in the capability of the immune system, and adjustments in circadian rhythm. Hospitality Industry Products and Process Innovation
Question: Discuss about the Hospitality Industry for Products and Process Innovation. Answer: Introduction According to McManus (2013), with a growth in the population, the Australian hospitality industry makes it to list of fastest growing industries in the world. In addition to offering employment to more than 270,000 residents of the nation It sufficiently contributes to the country`s national revenue. The hospitality industry is mainly divided into three different categories of accommodation, food and tourism sectors. In comparison to the other segments of the hospitality industry, the food market has been effectively providing the crowd with products and services that meet their needs. Business giants successfully capture market opportunities and focus on social welfare at the same time. Also, a continuous development of production techniques allows Australia to diversify in goods. Moreover, the nation marks its way into being among the top ten wine producing countries in the world. Financial reports prove there has been a remarkable increment in the manufacturing of food and beverages (Food Beverage, 2016). Being surrounded by three oceans Australia faces a broad climate difference from the rest of the world which enables a vast range produce. The friendly and the easily adaptable nature of the workforce along with the specialized skills are achieved by the food and beverage industry with the help of the enhanced education and training system implemented by the government. The project takes into consideration a theory of competitive advantage and value change analysis used by business managers to meet their company goals and objectives. Further, the report analyses Sydney`s market competition and studies the menu engineering strategies practiced by food and beverage companies to maximize profits. Also, a detailed study of the business and its relationship with competitive advantage and value change policies has also been included. Competitive advantage and Value chain research In modern business world, profitability of a company greatly depends on an efficient marketing mix and smooth functioning. Despite of a remarkable success of the FB industry the country has recently faced competitions from international markets. As stated by Mabry (2012), the concept of competitive advantage can be defined as the factors that enable a company to manufacture products and services at a comparatively lower price and in a more appealing manner for consumers. A business plan based on such conditions enable a organisation to emerge superior to its rival companies. Typically, the policy of competitive advantage include a array of factors like cost framework, brand royalty, diversification of products, channels of distribution and consumer service. In terms of a sustainable future and an advantage over competitors a firm significantly depends on a strong competitive advantage strategy. The Australian FB industry divides the policy into two types, comparative and differential schemes. On the other hand a value chain analysis refers to extensive activities that a company undergoes to conceive a final product and sell the good to a consumer (Ni Mhurchu, et al. 2013). It is the duty of business managers to study every production step immensely and bring in changes as and when required to lower total production cost and thereby increase profits. Australian leading companies like Fonterra and Lion Nathan distributes the manufacturing procedure into five broad categories each of which provides an opportunity for the firm to maximize capabilities and set up a proportional relationship to competitive advantage. The practice of competitive advantage mix promotes the idea of selling products at a cheap cost to achieve a higher revenue surplus. Residents of Australia aim to maximise utility and cost value of a good. In relation to Weissman (2014), cheap costing substitutes offered by companies attract a wide range of consumers and also eventually meet stakeholder`s expectations. Competition in food and beverage industry (Sydney) The food and beverage industry in the hospitality sector of Australia is one of the most competitive areas. The competition nature of the FB industry in Sydney refers to the dynamic external system in which the organization operates. The competition of the food and beverage industry increases as the number of sellers increases who offers similar kind of goods and services to customers. In Sydney, there are a number of fast food centres for the customers to choose from that enhances the competitiveness in the market. There are two types of competitive nature prevailing in the food and beverage industry of Sydney which are the direct competition and the indirect competition. In the direct competition the competitors offers and sells products and services that are of similar kind. The Parmalat and the Goodman Fielder operates in the direct competitive nature. Confronting to Hollensen (2015), in case of an indirect competitive environment, the competitors of the food and beverage industry in Sydney compete with one another even though they offer different products and services to the customers. The products provided by the competitors are close substitutes for each other which cause the competition as the companies try to retain more of the customers so as to prevent the customers from switching the brand. In the food and beverage industry of Sydney, the companies intend to differentiate the products and services offered by them to increase the sales and revenue of the enterprise. According to Lammers Ryll (2016), the food and beverage sectors retail food and beverage merchandise from the locations that are from the fixed point of sale. The organizations involve the use of specialized equipments such as freezers, refrigerators and other gadgets for the business. Moreover, the staffs of the organization are trained in order to achieve the objective of healthy and safe storage and sanitary conditions. However, the food and beverage industry in Sydney has been facing increased competition and the price pressure in the business. There has been lower shelf price and increase in the price of the commodity experienced by the ingredient suppliers and the food makers in the industry. As per PhiIlipov (2015), the cost challenge is met by the food and beverage firms by achieving a critical mass via consolidation and higher economies of scale. The companies are able to build a stronger position in the competitive market by gaining the leverage. This further helps the company to deal with the high demand of the customers. The food and beverage industry in Sydney serves the needs of the customers through industry specific solutions. The organizations operates in the overall supply chain that includes all the processes from development to delivery. Management of companies innovates and develops the IT system in order to meet the challenges in the competitive market of food and beverage industry in Sydney (Green et al., 2015). Majority of the organizations in the industry uses the ERP system to support the streamline planning, future forecasting and the accounting system to ensure better productivity of the business. Therefore, it can be stated that although the food and beverage industries in Sydney confronts a high competitive nature, it is able to deal with the competitive nature effectively. Value Chain analysis and Competitive Advantage in Australian FB companies According to Soosay, Fearne Dent (2012), the value chain analysis is a tool that is used by the bars and the up-markets in Australia in order to identify the primary and the other organizational activities that help to add values to the finished or the final products of the companies. The value chain analysis contributes to analyzing the actions of the organizations in order to minimize the cost of the products and maximize the product differentiation that is required to sustain in the competitive market. The value chain analysis includes all the internal activities involved in transforming the inputs into desirable outputs. The supply chain of the bars and the upmarket restaurants is an evolving shopping process. The provision of the products and services are regulated by the demand of the products from the customers. It has been mentioned that the chain operates efficiently and there is a proper balance in the ordering of the final product. As stated in Grunert, Traill (2012), factors like product, place, promotion and price or the 4P theory plays a major role in the illustration of these concepts in the bars and upmarket restaurants operating in Australia. The products offered by the firm needs to be developed through strategic ideas such that the customers are able to understand how and when to spend the money. Therefore, the menu needs to be designed based on the customer wants and this can be effectively achieved through proper market research. The price of the products set by the bars and the upmarket needs to be competitive and within the affordable range of the customers. As per Ho, Yang Hung (2015), customers prefer good quality food within the nominal budget. Therefore, the companies need to develop products that are cost effective to reduce the price of the outputs. Choosing the correct place with a view of selling the products has to be decided correctly. The products need to be sold in the areas in larger amount where the number of the potential customers is high. A menu of the restaurants must be set based on the taste, preference, and culture of the clients in the particular place. The primary objective of advertisement and promotion is to reach out to more customers by making them aware of the products and the services offered by the organizations (Cadez Guilding, 2012). Effective promotion can lead to increase in the sales and revenue of the bars and upmarket restaurant in Australia. Firms like Lion, Dick Smith Ltd and De Bortoli emphasize the implementation of well organized promotional techniques to attract customers. Large corporations enjoy a broad range of competitive advantage over their rivals. Also, it with high skilled management and a enlargement of restaurant chains Attica and Bills effectively add value to their brands. The success of a beverage company depends heavily on a theory of VC analysis. Being among the leading exporters of wines, Australian companies are significantly influenced by the international market. A fluency of communication between several high turnover companies enables domestic firms to increase managerial efficiency and lea rn about new production techniques. According to Hatch Howland (2015), it is the people of the nation who benefit the most from the extensive competition within brands. On the other hand mediocre companies like Mars and Bindaree Beef focus more on the process of outbound logistics. Delivering of goods, pricing and after sales service are of great importance to them. While, Nelson Wines, Treasury Estates, Casella and several other high yielding beverage companies harness the theory of Economic Moat. Furthermore, in recent years the wine industry has presented a significant rise with an export of 263ml of high quality wine mainly to UK (Piankova, 2014). Menu Engineering Australian FB brands discreetly analyse the popularity of their offered products and arrange them accordingly for a better profit generation. The strategy of menu engineering is practised by companies with a simple goal to maximise annual turnover. A well organised arrangement of food and beverage items can escalate a restaurant`s profits by 10%-15% on a daily basis. According to Theng Loo (2012), it is the duty of a brands management to study the customer demands and execute changes when requires. Typically the process of menu-engineering is divided into four segments of costing, categorizing, designing and testing. Australian restaurants primarily focus on the preliminary step of product costing to attract customers. In adherence to Linassi, Alberton Marinho (2016), it can be seen most of the FB companies do not carry the costing of their menu effectively. Categorizing of items on the menu and an attracting design are equally important to conduct a well-developed menu construction . Finally, company supervisors test the customers response to the newly implemented menu. With the help of popularity information of the several offered products, managers subdivide the menu into four different segments of horse (highly popular with small profits), star (high revenue from increased popularity), dog (less popular resulting low yield) and puzzle (large earnings from shallow popularity). Also, upmarket restaurants and bars in Australia feed on the peoples psychology and an efficient management system to build up an active menu order. FB industry giants emphasize the need for carrying out the process of menu-engineering by a single person who is always in contact with the visitors and energetically take part in company decisions. A successful designing and exercising of this strategy enhances cost minimisation and thereby affects profit ratio. According to Reale Flint (2016), in addition to an immense study of customer behaviours and their different buying patterns, supervisors often seek the help of restaurant specialists and menu advisors when it comes to designing and promoting of the menu card. The removing of currency signs as a prefix to product process in one of the advancement that provoked better earnings. Often restaurants invoke the need for a better promotion by introducing combo plans and highlighting items that need to be sold most in the menu. Moreover, the presentation element also plays a vital role in affecting a consumer`s decision. As opined by Smith Pititto (2014), increased visual, alignment of prices and a diversification of designing patterns are some of the important factors that influence visitors. Menu card as such of Fonterra and Accolade Wines act as examples to other food and beverage companies and also have proved a noticeable increment of 60% profit margin. In addition, the concepts of Happy Hours and House Specials have sufficiently gained a better reaction of the Australian people (Guy, 2016). Further, an inclusion of product description creates an increased hunger and desire. The prosperity of a company greatly depends on a restaurants or bar s ability to understand the feedbacks of their targeted customers and undergo changes as and when required. According to Lang Heasman (2015), flexibility in production pricing and adaptability to the environment greatly affects profitability of a firm. Analysing the current situation of the Australian market, organisations need to work in a more efficient way to a secure a more sustainable future and to gain a better competitive advantage. Conclusion The food and beverage industry form a major part of the Australian market concerning investments. Since the development and introduction of new policies and strategies by the government and companies, the nation's FB industry has proved to offer tempting long-term returns with a comparatively less amount of risk than other industry segments. Along with stability, companies in this industry are highly creative in nature. A constant evolution of products, pricing and marketing strategies provide brands with a sense of competitive advantage. Furthermore, the study of value chain structure and its implication by restaurants and bars provides a better growth opportunity for business firms. Australia being a developed country and highly adaptive in nature faces an immense competition at the international as well as domestic levels. The restaurants deal in the same line of product and often in order to attract more customers focus on developing best quality substitute goods. From the above report, it can be inferred that for a sustainable future organizations need to continuously keep an eye for undertaking new developments in the functioning. Business giants in addition to fulfilling revenue requirements also put a spotlight on attending to societal welfare. Being among the top ten exporters of wine, the government of the country takes deep interest in providing beverage companies with a number of facilities to gain better knowledge about the taste and preferences of the world. Analyzing the Australian FB industry and intensely studying its determinants it can be concluded that with an effective managerial efficiency and a practice of menu-engineering brands aim to accomplish the target of becoming the worlds one of the most dominating and influential sectors.
